After more than ten days competition, 2006’ Around Taklimakan Auto and Motorcycle Cross Country Rally., Xinjiang, China was closed in September in Arksu ciy, Xinjiang. The race is very tough so that it is be comparable to Dakar Rally. During event, racers shall cross desert, Gobi desert, dried river bank, even Lop Nur and Taklimakan desert where are no-go area for human being with fame of “sea of death”. The race is full of challenge and hardships and dangers, attracting countless brave. In this session there will be 114 racers from Hang Kong, Shanghai, Shandong, He’nan provinces and Lufeng, Great Wall automobile manufacturers to participate the race. The number of racers is twice than that of the first of Rally. 10 motor racers from Canada, New Zealand also organize team to participate race.
race begins in sandstorm
The race will start on April 29 in Urumqi. Racer will start out from Dikaner, Turpan, along Kumutage Desert, pass through Lop Nur where is a no-go area, then from the northern slop of Altun Mountain，cross Milan ancient city, cross Ruoqiang, Qiemo, Mingfeng, in the end racers will pass through Taklimakan Desert which is called as “a sand sea of death”，the total mileage reaches 3500km, including 7 stages of 1100km, with complicated racing section, such as sandstone road, Gobi desert, hinterland of desert, as well as sand road of river bank.
As the race is going to start, Camp No. 1 in Dikaner was covered by sand dust, visibility is less than 50 m. however, 2006 Around Taklimakan Auto and Motorcycle Cross Country Rally., Xinjiang, China was unveiling its curtain. As all racers and their service staff were accommodated in interim tents in Camp NO.1, when sandstorm is near, some people were seeking shelter. Chaos occasionally appeared in a short time. By urgent coordination of the organizing committee, order was resumed in the Camp. However, sandstorm makes some racers and their service staff stayed up the whole night. At 8:00 a.m. of April 30. sand storm still hovers over the camp and racing course. On account of safety and security, the organizing committee decided to cancel all stages of the day instead of section of driving. After sand storm was ended, they started from Camp No.1 to the destination of the day Camp No.2, the whole process spent about 5-10 hours, some motor racing driver even reached the Camp at midnight.
