Xinhua News Agency Urumqi, May 1st ( reporters Zhang Hongchi and Ding Xiuling) 101 refitted cars and 73 motorcycles start engines at 11 o'clock, at Urumqi Xinjiang Sports Center, and cross the city in roaring, being gone with no track in eyes of passers-by.
Today, the Xinjiang Station of 2007 China Huanta Cars and Motorcycles Rally and All Country 4WD--Four Wheel Drive Rally start departure, 36 car racing teams and 18 motorcycle racing teams from 18 provinces of the All Country will round within 12 days the largest moving desert - the Great Taklamakan Desert in clockwise approximately for one week, which includes the center part Daliyabuyi.
"Circling this desert, we will experience dream, challenge, and conquer in all round" said the general manager of the Xinjiang Huanta Car and Motorcycle Sports Club Co., Ltd.
The total length for the rally is 3178.3 kilometers, of which there set five race segments with length 806.96 kilometers, the rest 2421.34 kilometers are passing kilometers. The main ground features of these race segments are gravel densely covered Gobi, desert, and dry riverbed. All race segments are no mans land, being silent usually, but frenetic roaring will soon come.
Today's stretch of road is passing segment, cars departing from Urumqi will pass Tianshan mountain in southward, and arrive at South Xinjiang City Korla along roads. Tomorrow the first race segment "Xinier race segment" will start -- pushing forward from north border of desert to east border.
The well-known Chinese race drivers such as Lu Ningjun, Liu Bin, Men Guangyuan, and Zhou Yong etc., who have ever participated the Dakar Rally participate this time of rally.
Fang Zheng said："This rally has already become the Asia regional long distance cars and motorcycles cross country rally with most participants, cars and motorcycles, and highest race prize money". The total amount of prize money for this year's races reaches high to 500 thousand yuan.
The Huanta Cars and Motorcycles Rally was established in 2005, the rally of this year is the third rally. Along with the enhancement of famous of the rally, beginning from this rally, the races are upgraded to national races, being called as "All Country 4WD--Four Wheel Drive Rally Xinjiang Station".
The rally is sponsored by the Federation of Automobile Sports of the People’s Republic of China, the China Motor Sport Association, and the Xinjiang Sports Bureau, and is undertaken by the Xinjiang Huanta Car and Motorcycle Sports Club Co., Ltd. In order to guarantee the rally safety, this rally will employ one helicopter to be used in omnidistance rescue for the first time.
Along with departing of racing cars, there are 156 reporters for 90 news medias taking about 40 news vehicles - - plus vehicles used for referees, logistics, and rescue etc, this motorcade winding several kilometers long will wave on the largest desert of China in roaring.
