On March 3, the 2025 China Taklimakan Rally New Energy Vehicle Safety Technology Seminar was held in Suzhou.
The seminar was chaired by Lu Mingyao, Director of the Off-Road Committee of the China Automobile and Motorcycle Sports Federation. Leaders and experts from the China Automotive Engineering Research Institute, representatives from Taklimakan Rally Company, Great Wall Motors, BYD Auto, Chery Auto, Lynk & Co, as well as participating club representatives, attended the event.
Experts and representatives engaged in in-depth discussions on the competition rules and technical standards for the new energy category of the 2025 China Taklimakan Rally.

The 2025 China Taklimakan Rally will introduce a new energy vehicle category in the automotive group, marking a significant adjustment in response to the rapid development of China’s new energy vehicle (NEV) industry and the deepening expansion of NEV brands into the off-road market.
This seminar was the highest-level professional discussion in China focused on this adjustment, covering multiple aspects of automotive technology, safety, and competition regulations. The main topics discussed included vehicle classifications, safety assessments for new energy models, race characteristics, and the scope of modifications and component changes for participating vehicles. During the seminar, experts from the China Automotive Engineering Research Institute provided a detailed interpretation of the "Preliminary Opinions on Safety Evaluation for the New Energy Category in the 2025 Long-Distance Off-Road Races by CAMF." Attendees engaged in in-depth discussions on the technical regulations for participating vehicles, specifically addressing safety modifications and the permitted scope of component changes. Topics covered included material replacements for exterior components, modifications to suspension parts, battery types and applicable safety protection rules, fuel tank standards and requirements, vehicle weight, range, engine restrictors, and electric motor drive modes. Additionally, the seminar introduced the characteristics of off-road rally racing, including race distance, stage terrain features, and difficulty levels. Representatives from participating manufacturers also put forward various proposals and requests.

The progress and development of the Taklimakan Rally have always been closely linked to the support and active participation of outstanding domestic off-road vehicle brands.
The introduction of a new energy vehicle category in the 2025 China Taklimakan Rally has received an immediate response from numerous domestic automakers and new energy brands. This move fully demonstrates that, as China's most challenging and influential long-distance off-road rally, the Taklimakan Rally remains the premier platform and proving ground for Chinese automakers—especially new energy vehicle brands—to showcase cutting-edge technology and exceptional quality.
